Formé dans un sous-sol à Ottawa, en Ontario, en fin 2012, BLAKDENIM mêle des genres comme personne au Canada aujourd’hui. Le groupe fusionne du hip hop, funk, rock et soul avec un contenu lyrique qui varie entre les questions identitaires aux problèmes quotidiens comme se remettre en forme après une mauvaise journée, la persévérance, l’estime de soi et l’espoir. Influencé par des artistes comme The Roots to Earth, Wind and Fire, il ne manque pas d’expertise musicale dans ce set de 8 personnes.

Nuven est la sortie électronique pour le travail en solo du producteur brésilien Gustavo Teixeira. Basé à Sao Paulo, ses expérimentations avec le bruit, pédales de boucle et synthétiseur conduit l’ancien guitariste à une atmosphère éthérée et minimale, construisant des chansons inventives autour des couches d’échantillons trouvé sur l’internet, des enregistrements fait à la maison et de la musique extraient de disques vinyle. Nuven a sorti un premier EP Choice of a Fiction (2015) et un album «Partir» en 2016, quand il a joué au festival Primavera Sound en Espagne. Ses performances live fait apparaitre une approche rafraichissante et créative sur la composition, démembrant ou l’ajoutant des instruments, improvisant des arrangements, offrant une expérience inoubliable.

Née d’une exploration de la combinaison et de la collision des cultures et des idées, Mas Aya est le projet solo de percussionniste de Toronto Brandon Miguel Valdivia («Not the Wind, Not the Flag, Lido Pimienta, Above Top Secret»). Mas Aya est un spectacle vif et puissant de percussions, flûte et chant scène, invitant les communautés à rabattre la vie sur les produits de base pour s’autonomiser eux-mêmes et entre eux à travers la musique, la méditation, la danse et la fête.

L’artiste renommée internationalement, King Kimbit, initialement Nguyễn Anh Thư, est né et à grandit sur le territoire Algonquin non cédée venant de parents de bateau vietnamien. Elle a joué et enregistré en Jamaïque et dans toute l’Amérique du Nord, partageant l’amour et la connaissance, ce qu’elle croit être reliées par des racines similaires. King a récemment sorti son premier album double-disque LESSONS POETICALLY (avec l’aide de Canada Council for the Arts et la ville d’Ottawa).

BUDI est la mutation solo infinie de Nick Dourado, un musicien aux facettes multiples connu à travers le pays pour son travail avec une très bonne variété d’ensembles plongeant dans les eaux avec Century Egg et Special Costello, et couvrant des collaborations spontanée exploratoire avec EDDY et xxvii. BUDI existe dans des formations qui varie d’un “one-man sampler & sax action” jusqu’a un large ensemble qui incarnent un éthos volatil différent chaque fois, c’est plus sur les pulsions innées de Dourado que travaillant au sein d’un son concrétiser ou adoptant un caractère.

Formed in a basement in Ottawa, Ontario, in late 2012, BLAKDENIM blends genres like no Canadian act today. The group fuses hiphop, funk, rock and soul with lyrical content that ranges from identity issues to daily issues, like picking yourself up after a bad day, perseverance, self-esteem and hope. Influenced by artists like The Roots to Earth, Wind and Fire, there's no shortage of musical expertise in this 8-piece line-up.

Nuven is the electronic outlet for the solo work of brazilian producer Gustavo Teixeira. Based in Sao Paulo, his experiments with noise, loop pedals and synths led the former guitarist to an ethereal and minimal atmosphere, building inventive tracks around layers of internet samples, home-recordings and ripped vinyl. Nuven has released a debut EP Choice of a Fiction (2015) and a full-length ""Partir"" in 2016, when he performed at Primavera Sound festival in Spain. His live performances brings up a refreshingly and creative approach on the songs compositions, dismembering or adding instruments, improvising arrangements, delivering an earwarm experience.

Born out of an exploration of combining and colliding cultures and ideas, Mas Aya is the solo project of Toronto-based percussionist Brandon Miguel Valdivia (Not the Wind, Not the Flag, Lido Pimienta, Above Top Secret). Mas Aya is a lively and powerful percussion, flute and voice stage show, inviting communities to cast off the shroud of commodity-based living to empower themselves and each other through music, meditation, dance and celebration.

The internationally-acclaimed all-around artist King Kimbit, originally Nguyễn Anh Thư, was born and raised on unceded Algonquin territory to Vietnamese boat people. She has performed and recorded in Jamaica and all over North America, sharing love and knowledge, which she believes are connected by similar roots. King has recently released her debut double-disc album LIFE LESSONS POETICALLY (with help from Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Ottawa).

BUDI is the ever-mutating solo act from Nick Dourado, a multi-faceted musician known across the country for his work with a very healthy variety of ensembles, dipping into poppier waters with Century Egg and Special Costello, and covering collaborative spontaneous explorations with EDDY and xxvii. BUDI exists in formations that range from one-man sampler & sax action to bustling large band activity that embody a volatile, different-every-time ethos that's more about Dourado's own innate impulses than working within a reified soundworld or adopting a character.
