// Willie Thrasher & Linda Saddleback https://williethrasher.bandcamp.com/track/spirit-child

Willie Thrasher is a singer-songwriter from Aklavik, Northwest Territories. At five, Thrasher was taken from his family and sent to a residential school where he was forbidden to practice his Inuvialuit culture. In the mid-1960s, he drummed for the Cordells, one of the first Inuit rock bands. One evening, a stranger recommended that the group tap into their Aboriginal roots instead of the charts for inspiration. This prompted Thrasher to write songs about his life, people, and the environment (as heard on 1981’s Spirit Child LP, CBC). Thrasher currently performs with his partner Linda Saddleback and is still writing and recording music. Keep your ears open for their new song, “Sacred Fire of Peace,” a message for the world.

// Trails https://trailsssss.bandcamp.com/track/leave-her-be

Trails is Allie O'Manique, a young, prolific songwriter from Ottawa, Canada who weaves reverb-laden guitars through layers of smoky alto vocals. Trails’ live performances draw the room into a psychedelic haze, looping vocals and guitars while channeling artists such as Mazzy Star and Beach House. Trails has enchanted Canadian audiences at festivals such as MEGAPHONO and Arboretum Festival, and supported artists such as Tim Hecker, The Wooden Sky, Jeremy Gara (Arcade Fire) and The Acorn. She was awarded the MEGAPHONO artist residency in 2017, and went on to record with Evening Hymns' Jonas Bonnetta, with whom she is currently producing her debut full-length album. "Leave Her Be" is the first fruit from these recordings; a beautiful but painfully raw recounting of a difficult relationship, delivered with the confidence of a mid-career artist. At 18, Allie is far from it; for Trails, the best is surely yet to come.

// King Kimbit https://soundcloud.com/kingkimbit/fightforabdirahman?in=kingkimbit%2Fsets%2Flifelessonspoetically

The internationally-acclaimed all-around artist King Kimbit, originally Nguyễn Anh Thư, was born and raised on unceded Algonquin territory to Vietnamese boat people. She has performed and recorded in Jamaica and all over North America, sharing love and knowledge, which she believes are connected by similar roots. King has recently released her debut double-disc album LIFE LESSONS POETICALLY (with help from Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Ottawa). Life Lessons Poetically is a collection of poetry with respective musical arrangements to illustrate the lessons learned and insight gained so far in the quarter century of King's journey through intersections. Despite the inevitable presence of oppressive white supremacy and patriarchy, there is beauty in telling stories of life and death, revealing the healing and survival of women and the world.
